The St Vincent de Paul Society – or SVP for short – offers people the means to give a little bit of their time to helping others. In fact we have 800,000 members worldwide – 10,000 in England & Wales alone – and they are ordinary people who give a little bit of their time to help others.
In parishes all over the country the SVP does great work, essential work, Christ’s work – and so it is here in this parish. The only thing is: there aren’t enough members here to meet all the need.
There are countless people locally who need your help – the sick or elderly, people in hospital, people who don’t have enough to eat, homeless people – and we urgently need more parishioners to help meet this need.
If you decided to join us, we would provide you with training, you would work in pairs so you wouldn’t find yourself on your own with a problem, and we would never expect you to do anything you were uncomfortable with.
If you’d like to know more about what would be involved in joining the parish SVP group, please contact them via the Parish Office.
And remember that joining the SVP could give you one way of taking your faith out of the church and beyond Sundays into the rest of the week so that you can truly live as a fulltime Christian.
